General Manager – CFS & Transportation
About the role
Donito Group is looking to hire a General Manager – CFS & Transportation, reporting to the Managing Director / CEO, to provide overall leadership and operational management of its Container Freight Station (CFS), transportation fleet, cargo handling, warehousing and related logistics activities in Dar es Salaam. The role ensures safe, efficient, compliant and profitable operations while maintaining high service standards for customers. The suggested executive package includes a USD salary, furnished house, company car, fuel and other expatriate benefits. Responsibilities: - Manage day-to-day CFS operations, including container receiving, stripping, stuffing, cargo handling, storage and container return. - Ensure proper documentation and coordination with customs, port authorities, shipping lines, clearing agents and customers. - Manage the company’s truck fleet and transport operations with the Transport Manager. - Plan vehicle allocation, dispatching, routing and turnaround times. - Monitor truck utilisation, fuel consumption, maintenance and operating costs. - Maintain strong relationships with key customers and logistics partners. - Ensure customer requirements and service-level agreements are consistently achieved. - Handle major customer escalations and operational complaints. - Establish preventive maintenance programs for trucks and equipment. - Control spare parts, tyres, fuel and maintenance costs. - Evaluate performance and optimum utilisation of trucks, forklifts, reach stackers and other equipment. - Lead and develop CFS, transport, fleet, warehouse, workshop and administrative teams. - Establish clear job descriptions, targets and KPIs. - Conduct performance reviews and implement training programs. - Promote discipline, accountability and teamwork. - Ensure adequate workforce planning for operational requirements. - Ensure compliance with applicable Tanzania transport, customs, occupational health and safety requirements. - Ensure proper incident, accident and cargo-damage reporting. - Maintain emergency response and business-continuity procedures. - Conduct regular operational and safety audits. Key requirements
- Proven senior leadership experience managing CFS, transport, warehousing or logistics operations
- Strong operational management capabilities across container handling, cargo operations and fleet dispatch
- Customer and commercial management skills, including managing key accounts and service-level agreements
- Fleet and asset management expertise covering trucks, forklifts, reach stackers and preventive maintenance
- People management and team development skills, including setting KPIs and conducting performance reviews
- Knowledge of Tanzania transport, customs, occupational health, safety and security regulations in logistics
