About the role

Mercor connects experts with leading AI labs to train and test frontier AI models. It needs database engine experts to build real world tasks that test how AI agents handle database engineering. Applications close 13 October 2026 and the first three qualified applicants join the pilot. Pay: USD 2,200 per task. Remote, task based. What you will do: Design one hard, self contained database engineering task. Build checks for correctness, concurrency, retries and regressions. Measure latency, throughput and memory, and write grading criteria.

Key requirements

• 5+ years on database engine internals, or a database systems PhD
• Deep experience with storage engines, query execution or replication
• Strong implementation skills
• DBA, SQL analytics or ETL work alone does not qualify
