About the role

We are looking to hire an experienced Electrical Engineer to oversee the planning, development, reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of electrical infrastructure at DP World's port terminal in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This role involves providing electrical engineering leadership throughout the asset lifecycle, ensuring medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems are safe, reliable, energy-efficient, compliant with applicable regulations, and capable of supporting continuous 24-hour port operations, heavy infrastructure development, and future terminal expansion. Responsibilities: - Provide technical oversight of port electrical assets, including MV/LV distribution networks, main substations, transformers, ring main units (RMUs), switchgear, emergency generators, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, floodlighting, earthing, lightning protection, and electrical installations in buildings. - Provide engineering support for cargo-handling infrastructure, including ship-to-shore (STS) quay cranes, yard cranes, reefer container power points, automated gate systems, maintenance workshops, and operational control centres. - Monitor electrical system performance and reliability to ensure uninterrupted port operations. - Identify opportunities to improve electrical infrastructure capacity, reliability, and operational efficiency. - Prepare and review electrical engineering designs, single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection schemes, load calculations, technical specifications, scopes of work, and Bills of of Quantities (BoQs). - Ensure electrical designs accommodate future power demand, system redundancy, maintainability, and harsh marine-industrial environmental conditions. - Support technical procurement by defining equipment requirements, participating in vendor and contractor prequalification, evaluating technical bids, and assessing equipment proposals. - Review engineering submissions to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, and applicable electrical standards. - Direct, mentor, supervise, train, and coach in-house field personnel, junior engineers, site inspectors, and subcontractors on electrical works, installation techniques, and quality control procedures. - Implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to maximize electrical asset availability and extend equipment service life. - Lead fault investigations, root-cause analysis (RCA), and technical troubleshooting during electrical outages or system failures to restore power safely and quickly. - Support annual operating expenditure (OPEX) budgeting, capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning, and the development of short-, medium-, and long-term electrical infrastructure plans. - Monitor asset condition and recommend rehabilitation, replacement, or upgrading of aging electrical infrastructure. - Lead electrical engineering projects from initial concept through design, construction, testing, commissioning, and operational handover. - Coordinate and witness factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), pre-commissioning inspections, and final energized commissioning of new or upgraded electrical installations. - Manage, supervise, and coordinate electrical contractors, consultants, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and service providers. - Ensure project activities comply with safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements. - Monitor project progress and resolve technical challenges that could affect delivery timelines or operational readiness. - Enforce compliance with company health, safety, and environmental requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, safe electrical switching practices, and applicable national and international standards. - Ensure electrical installations comply with requirements established by the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), the Engineers Registration Board (ERB), and applicable IEC, IEEE, and ISO standards. - Drive energy-efficiency initiatives, power factor correction, equipment electrification, solar photovoltaic (PV) integration, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and port decarbonization initiatives. - Promote safe working practices among employees, contractors, and technical service providers. - Identify electrical safety risks and implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date single-line diagrams, electrical layout drawings, asset registers, protection relay settings, test certificates, and as-built documentation. - Ensure electrical maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment documentation are properly maintained. - Monitor the availability and reliability of MV/LV power distribution networks and electrical supplies serving quay and yard cranes. - Maintain records demonstrating compliance with electrical safety procedures, LOTO requirements, ERB regulations, and applicable EWURA licensing requirements. - Prepare technical reports on system performance, electrical faults, project implementation, and asset reliability.
