Working in Oman
Employer sponsored work under the 2023 Labour Law (Royal Decree 53/2023). Domestic workers have their own rules since October 2025.
Guidance from official sources, checked on 5 November 2026. Not a visa decision. Never pay anyone for a job offer or a visa.
Legal ways to work there
- Employer sponsored work visa after a written job offer; the employer needs a Ministry of Labour authorisation to recruit you.
- You do not need a No Objection Certificate from your old employer to take a new job once your contract has ended.
- Domestic workers are covered by Ministerial Decision 574/2025: a written contract in Arabic, registered electronically with the Ministry.
Your rights
- Your employer may not keep your passport or personal documents without your written consent (Labour Law, article 6), and you never have to give it.
- Licensed recruitment agencies may not charge you anything for getting the job (article 31).
- Wages must be paid into your account at a local bank or licensed financial institution (article 87).
- At least 30 days' paid annual leave. Overtime: basic wage plus at least 25% by day and 50% at night.
- End of service: at least one month's basic wage for each year worked (article 61).
- Domestic workers: at most 12 working hours a day with at least 8 continuous hours of rest, one paid day off a week, at least 21 days' paid annual leave, health insurance paid by the employer, and no recruitment fees.
Pay floor
Set by your registered contract; check the wage on the contract before you travel.
Red flags
- Anyone asking you to pay for a job, a "visa slot" or a medical test booking before you have a real written offer.
- An offer without an interview, or a contract sent only by WhatsApp.
- An agent who is not registered with TaESA, or who asks to keep your passport.
- Being asked to sign a paper letting the employer keep your passport.
Where to get help
- Oman Ministry of Labour call centre: 80077000, or a labour complaint online at mol.gov.om.
- The Tanzanian embassy in Muscat.
- TaESA before you travel.

Before you go: TaESA and registered agencies
Tanzania Employment Services Agency (TaESA): Bibi Titi Mohamed / Morogoro Road, near the Commission for Mediation and Arbitration building, P.O. Box 80348, Dar es Salaam. Mwanza office near the Railway Station / Kenyatta Road junction, opposite Lake Hotel; zonal offices in Arusha and Dodoma. Phone +255 735 221 022 | +255 739 221 022 (call first), email info@taesa.go.tz. TaESA's website is offline; there is no official list of registered agencies online, so ask TaESA or the embassy to confirm one.
We only list recruitment agencies whose registration we have confirmed with TaESA. None are confirmed for this country yet; ask TaESA to confirm any agency before you pay or sign anything.
