Working in Kuwait

Employer sponsored work. Since July 2025 private sector workers need their employer's approval to leave the country.

Guidance from official sources, checked on 5 November 2026. Not a visa decision. Never pay anyone for a job offer or a visa.

Parts of this guide come from news and law firm reports, because the government's own site could not be reached when we checked. Confirm every rule with the embassy or the official links below before you rely on it.

Legal ways to work there

  • Employer sponsored work permit through the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM). Domestic workers fall under the 2015 Domestic Workers Law.

Your rights

  • Since 1 July 2025 private sector workers need an exit permit approved by their employer (requested on the Sahel app) before leaving Kuwait.
  • Employers may not keep workers' passports.
  • Moving to a new employer without their consent is possible after three years; before that you need a release or a PAM decision on a complaint.
  • The private sector minimum wage is KD 75 a month; ask PAM or the embassy for the current domestic worker minimum.

Pay floor

Private sector minimum KD 75 a month (check before you travel).

Red flags

  • Anyone asking you to pay for a job, a "visa slot" or a medical test booking before you have a real written offer.
  • An offer without an interview, or a contract sent only by WhatsApp.
  • An agent who is not registered with TaESA, or who asks to keep your passport.
  • An employer who refuses an exit permit to stop you going home: report it to PAM and the embassy.

Where to get help

  • Public Authority for Manpower, including its domestic labour department.
  • The Tanzanian embassy in Kuwait City.
  • TaESA before you travel.

We only list recruitment agencies whose registration we have confirmed with TaESA. None are confirmed for this country yet; ask TaESA to confirm any agency before you pay or sign anything.
