Working in Australia
Employer sponsored skilled work through the Skills in Demand visa, with the same workplace rights as Australians.
Guidance from official sources, checked on 5 November 2026. Not a visa decision. Never pay anyone for a job offer or a visa.
Legal ways to work there
- Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482), Core Skills stream: an occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List, at least one year of relevant experience in the last five years, IELTS at least 5.0 in each skill (or equivalent), and a sponsor paying at least the Core Skills Income Threshold (indexed every July) and the market rate.
Your rights
- Visa holders have the same workplace rights as Australian workers, enforced by the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Pay floor
National minimum wage: A$26.44 an hour from 1 July 2026; awards may set higher rates.
Red flags
- Anyone asking you to pay for a job, a "visa slot" or a medical test booking before you have a real written offer.
- An offer without an interview, or a contract sent only by WhatsApp.
- An agent who is not registered with TaESA, or who asks to keep your passport.
- Being asked to pay for sponsorship: it is illegal for a sponsor to ask for or accept payment in return for sponsorship.
Where to get help
- Fair Work Ombudsman: 13 13 94.
- Department of Home Affairs for visas.
- The Tanzanian honorary consulate in Perth.
